Welcome to Nunneries of Bhutan, a site that aims to map all of existing nunneries in Bhutan.
Mapping
Using open source software, this site maps all current existing nunneries in Bhutan. Click on each of the nunneries to find out basic information about them (location, history, sectarian affiliation). For each nunnery there is also an individual page with the history of the site as well as images and videos.
Education
This site explores the challenges faced and the progress made by nuns in Bhutan as it pertains to their access to education. When available, we have included the monastic curriculum studied at each of the nunneries.
Open Access
We built this site using open source libraries. We will make everything available, including code and underlying data, available on Github.
